Leh was the capital of the Himalayan realm of Ladakh, now the Leh District in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, India (Leh District, with an area of 45,110 km2, is the second largest district in the country – after Kutch, Gujarat – in terms of area). The town is still conquered by the now ruined Leh Palace, previous mansion of the royal family of Ladakh, built in the similar style and about the similar time as the Potala Palace. Leh is at an height of 3524 metres (11,562 ft), and connects via National Highway 1D to Srinagar in the southwest and to Manali in the south via Leh-Manali Highway.
Flight to Leh in itself is an experience. You will spot some of the highest mountain ranges, untouched glaciers and on your way to landing an exhilarating view of monasteries in Leh. Early in the morning leave for Thiksey monastery for early morning prayers. We do a tailor made escorted beautiful village walk till Shey village. Visit Shey Palace and Gompa. Afternoon drive to Hemis monastery, most famous and largest 400-year old Monastery of Ladakh and then drive back to Leh.
Early morning drive from Leh to Nubra crossing over the Khardung la, one of the highest motorable roads in the world. Nubra was part of the famous trading ‘silk’ route and there are still double hump camels (Bactrians) in Nubra Valley. We stay tonight in Sumur village in Nubra Valley. Nubra Valley is a high altitude desert and Sumur is an oasis with greenery all around representing a unique contrast.
Morning visit the Diskit and Hunder Gompas. We drive back to Leh again via Khardung La enjoying the The spectacular view of Karakorum range & famous highest peak Saser kagri 7678 mts and the Siachen glacier 70 km long. Evening free in Leh Market.
Drive to village of Chilling to enjoy white water rafting trip on the River Zanskar. Enjoy your ride, rapids, freezing water and the beautiful scenery of the gorge in the Himalayas along the 28km route to the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus River. Hot buffet lunch is served. On your way back to Leh, stop off at the Magnetic Hill, where you will experience nature defying gravity.
Morning in time drive to Leh airport for flight to Delhi. Enjoy stunning scenery as you fly over the Himalayan and Karakoram mountain ranges. Free time in Delhi.
Transfer to Delhi International Airport in time for your onward flight.
